Do you know the fifth aspect of comfort?

In addition to the four aspects of comfort for occupants, we mustn’t forget about ease of installation on the building site. This aspect of sustainable construction is reflected in numerous initiatives across the Group’s major brands.

Connaissez-vous le 5e confort ?

In the 4th edition of the Sustainable Construction Barometer, only 18% of respondents indicated that a building that promotes the well-being and health of occupants is a definition that fits sustainable construction. And yet, this concept of comfort is also essential.

For instance, the ECLAZ® (which you can see in a new campaign) double glazing range has been specially designed to deliver both visual comfort and thermal comfort in living spaces. Thanks to an ultra-thin transparent coating applied to the glass (1,000 to 10,000 times thinner than a human hair) it acts as a filter for solar gain, helping to regulate the indoor temperature more effectively.

Depending on the customers' needs, ECLAZ® offers several solutions. ECLAZ® LUMI maximizes natural daylight, with up to 83% light transmission, creating brighter and more pleasant living spaces every day. ECLAZ® ZEN provides the ideal summer/winter balance: it delivers a high level of thermal insulation in winter while filtering 50% of solar gain in summer, helping to reduce the risk of overheating whereas ECLAZ® SUN is designed for large glazed areas and highly exposed façades. It filters more than 60% of the solar energy entering the home while maintaining indoor brightness.

The countries of Southern Europe, which have long needed this, served as a testing ground. France and Northern Europe, now facing real heatwaves, are following suit. But the comfort of the people who work on construction sites is too often overlooked. And here too, Saint-Gobain has much to offer.

Lanaé, comfort for occupants and fitters

Lanaé, Isover’s new generation of glass wool, was designed to address this issue. Softer to the touch, easier to cut, virtually dust-free, and odorless: these are just some of the benefits that have been tested in the field by fitters. And once construction is complete, Lanaé also delivers on its promises to residents by protecting them from heat, cold, and noise. It also offers something new in terms of air quality, as it uses a bio-based, formaldehyde-free binder.

Weber and Gyproc: comfort designed for professionals

Both the Gypsum and Construction Chemicals businesses have implemented similar approaches that highlight ease of installation.

At Weber, the Comfort Engineered approach is built around two promises. The first focuses on ease of application, with products that mix and spread more easily. A study by Innovation Hub Europe found that the physical effort required of tilers was reduced by approximately 15% compared with conventional products.

The second promise addresses bag weight, with lighter packaging that covers just as much area while being easier on the back. The concept is marketed in each country under a local brand name, such as webercol flex enae in France, webercol delight in Belgium, webercol supergel in Spain, weberkol dinamik in Türkiye, etc.

Gyproc: lighter than ever

At Gypsum, the sister initiative Comfort Engineering also aims to design products for those who use them, with more fluid mixes. Application is up to 40% faster than with traditional mixes. This also improves safety, with fewer injuries and less fatigue for the teams, and makes building sites more productive.

From glass to adhesives, from plaster to glass wool, it’s the same story: comfort is no longer just a promise made to the end user. It has become a requirement throughout the chain: from the design office to the construction site to the living room.
